1840's Glazed Floral Chintz
1840's Glazed Floral Chintz
This is such a gorgeous print! The colors are more rich than I could capture. The background is a rich golden tan picotage with white geometric design. The foliage on the vines is very oriental looking, much like a willow. The floral motif has rich chocolate and deep olive green with just a touch of mustard gold. Measurements are 25 inches wide and 20 inches deep. There is very light gathering at the top, a tiny hem on one side and the lower edge. Maybe once curtains or part of a bedcover? Condition is excellent. The last photo is of the back of the piece. You can see how saturated the color is. The glaze is great and there are no repairs and no fading. I’m dating this to the 1840’s but haven’t found it documented. If anyone knows more please share!
