Antique French Toile Panel "The Miller"

$225.00

This is a wonderful early red linen French Toile. "Le Meunier, son Fils et l'Ane" translates to "The Miller, His Son, and the Ass". This is an 1806 French Copperplate toile de Jouy designed by Jean-Baptiste Huet. It is illustrating one of La Fontaine's fables. This panel is backed with a very coarse linen homespun and it is very lightly quilted. One of the finished sides has a very thin machine stitched rolled edge. An obvious later alteration. The toile piece measures 20 inches by 39 inches. The side edges are finished, the upper and lower edges are not. There is fading along the right side and one spot that has split. I’ve shown that in the last photo. Please message me with questions. International friends please contact me to calculate and arrange shipping.
