Rare Yellow 18th Century French Toile
Rare Yellow 18th Century French Toile
On one of our trips to France we found three quilts stuck under one of the vendor’s tables. We purchased them and when we got home we noticed one had some damage and you could see this yellow toile underneath. So I took it apart! The toile was mostly very thin and worn but I did manage to salvage a few pieces. The first photo most accurately shows the color. As I got close ups my camera lost it! If I’ve researched this correctly it dates to the 1780’s. The toile is linen. It is 24 inches by 22 inches which means you are not getting the full repeat width wise. The repeat length wise runs 18.5 inches. The edges are rough and there is one hole. I’ve tried to show these in the photos. There are also still some small threads from where it was stitched. A fabulous toile to add to your collection!
