18th C. Toile Valance America Pays Homage to France

$245.00

In this toile America is personified in the form of a female figure leaning on a club, wearing a length of cloth draped from her shoulder and a feather headdress.  Accompanied by another figure holding aloft a phrygian bonnet and a third bearing the American flag with its thireen stars, she pays homage to France - a seated woman wearing a crown and resting on a globe adorned with fleur-de-lis.  This is a plate print on cotton 1783-89.  This textile measures 75 inches across and 16 inches deep.  It is bound with a pink and gold trim.
