18th Century French Toile de Nantes 1792

$250.00

This is a quilt fragment measuring 23 " x 29".  The toile was manufactured in Nantes France in 1792.  In this set of mythological scenes we recognize the chariot of Amphitrite, the toilet of Venus, the forge of Vulcan, Bacchus drinking and love castigating.  It is copper plate on cotton.  The red is still very vibrant and it is in quite good condition for its age. There is a bit of “rubbing” at the lower right edge of both the side and bottom. These are the sides that are cut.I’ve tried to show it in the photos but it’s really hard to see it. The other two sides are finished. I don’t see any stains or other condition issues to report. I have a second piece of this also listed.
